Having a clean car can be really nice, especially if you need to pick up someone you want to impress. Washing your car will give a nice looking outside, but won't do anything for the inside of your car. If you want both the inside and outside of your car nice and clean, then you need to have your car detailed. It's something that you can do on your own, or you can take it to a detailer and have them do the job for you. Having the professional do the job will likely give you a better result because they have the experience and tools to do it, but you can always give it a try. You can find checklists you can follow when you detail your car so that you don't miss anything.

Wash Your Car

The first step is washing your car. You want to be very thorough while washing your car. That includes spraying a tire soak on your tires before you start washing the rest of your car because the tires and that area will be the dirtiest part of your car. You may want to use two buckets, one that is only clean water to rinse with, and the other that has soapy water. Use a soft cloth for most of your car so that you leave any scratches. You will probably need a brush for your tires.

Drying

The best way to dry your car is to have a blower of some sort dry it, but most people don't have one at home. You can also use microfiber towels to dry your car. Don't let your car dry in the sun or slowly air dry, because then it can leave spots, which defeats the purpose of washing it.

Bring Out the Clay

There are specialized clay bars that you can use on your car at this point. You need to have a lubricant to help the clay slide over your car easily. The reason to use the clay is to get everything that you might have missed off your car. Knead the clay so it's flat, and when it starts to look dirty, just knead that part into the bar and get a new surface.

These are just a few of the things that are included in the process of detailing your car. Once you do these things, you are going to need to polish and glaze your car, and then move into the inside. It can take a lot of time, so taking it to a professional who can do it efficiently can be a better use of your time.
